PAN stands for permanent account number. A person who Intends to enter into Financial or monetary transactions where quoting of PAN is mandatory should apply for a PAN. Apart from this, a person eligible to file an Income tax return must obtain the PAN.PAN is 10 Digit Alphanumeric number issued by Income Tax Department.PAN can be applied Online on NSDL portal or offline through TIN Facilitation centre.PAN is now considered as a basic document and serves as identity proof.PAN is required if you want to open an account, deposit cash exceeding 50000, travel to a foreign country, Sale purchase of four Wheeler, Investment in mutual funds and capital market, Sale purchase of Immovable property etc.

AO code can be searched on https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan2/servlet/AOSearch by selecting appropriate options.

Usually It takes One to two week time to issue PAN card.
PAN card is delivered physically to the applicant’s residence or office address as the option chosen by the applicant.
PAN holder can amend the details on PAN card by filling change request form online or offline through Authorised TIN Facilitation centre.
Duplicate PAN card can be requested by filing Change request form online or through TIN FC centre.
If more than One PAN issued to the person he may surrender it by filling the change request form online/offline and fill the detail of PAN Number to be surrendered.
